Yo-Yo Art Quilt
Completed: January 2020
Pattern: Yo-Yo Rows by Terry Atkinson, modified size
Quilt Size: 39 x 63"
Yo-Yo Size: 2.25" diameter
Fabric: Created Yo-Yos with Heartwood Collection fabrics (The Henley Studio, Makower UK) purchased from Lancaster Home and Fabric. Purchased background batik fabric from Sew Vac. The batik's tighter weave made the fabric strips less vulnerable to fraying.
Techniques: Created Yo-Yos with Clover Quick Yo-Yo Maker. Followed tutorials for making a facing and quilt sleeve. Used a smaller sleeve fabric strip (6” instead of quilt-show regulation 8.5”) because the Hang It Dang It quilt-hanger rod I used has a small diameter.
Notes: This project fulfilled my need for a hand-sewing project during the past two tumultuous years. I created the Yo-Yos and hand-stitched them onto fabric strips, often while talking on the phone with a childhood friend. Because of the quilt’s delicate nature, I made this into an art quilt instead of a bed / throw quilt.
