Blanket Size: 35” square
Fabric: Quilt cotton from the Garden of Dreams Collection by Jason Yenter for In the Beginning Fabrics. Used Shannon Fabrics Cuddle Solids - Sky 60” Minky yardage for backing.
Techniques: Modified an on-line tutorial…
- Pre-washed quilt cotton in hot water and machine dried
- Ran Minky fabric in dryer to get rid of extra fuzz before cutting
- Cut off quilt cotton selvages and cut fabric into a 41.5” square (next time cut fabric into a rectangle to use more of the Minky fabric).
- Kept Minky selvage to decrease air-born fuzz
- Cut a Minky fabric square by subtracting 6 inches from top and bottom of quilt cotton square (for a 35.5” Minky square).
- Attach walking foot and, with wrong sides facing, machine baste 1/4” seam all around the square (did not baste first time and needed to remove this line of wonky stitching)
- Cut down quilt cotton fabric band all around square to 2.75”
- Folded fabric over to edge of Minky and pressed. Folded fabric over again and created binding with mitered corners. Hand baste mitered corners in place next time because you can’t see the corners well when using a walking foot. Machine stitched 1/4” from binding edge to sew it down and then removed machine basting thread
- Stitched 1/4” from edge all around the blanket to keep Minky form curling inside the binding
- Hand stitched mitered corners closed
CARE: Machine wash and dry at any temperature; pre-washed in hot water.
