Hourglass Quilt
Completed: February 2014
Pattern: Hourglass from Quilting Quickly Fall 2013 magazine
Quilt Size: 60 x 60" and 55 x 55" after shrinking
Block Size: 8" finished
Fabric: High Street collection by Lilly Ashbury for Moda. Purchased two layer cakes from FatQuarterShop.com and white background fabric from Sew Vac
Technique: traditional piecing; pieced backing; straight line quilting; hand stitched binding
Tutorials: Hourglass Quilt Block
Notes: This was my first attempt at quilt making. I began the project during October 2013 and attempted to make a king-size quilt (!) for our bedroom. I soon discovered it was too large to quilt on my domestic sewing machine. Since I wanted ownership of the entire project (instead of using a longarm quilting service), I divided the king-size into two throw-size quilts and gave one to my son. As a result of this over-ambitious first time quilt project, I signed up for a beginning quilting class and completed both hourglass quilts while finishing the class.
